Synopsis

The true story of Dick Beardsley, marathon champion, motivational speaker, and holder of the fifth fastest marathon time in U.S. history.  Beardsley runs his first marathon in 2:47:14, eventually earning a spot in the Guinness Book of World records for thirteen consecutive marathons, each one faster than the last.  His running success peaks at the Boston Marathon in his famous “Duel in the Sun” with Alberto Salazar, considered the most exciting race in marathon history.

His running career challenges pale in comparison to Dick’s near-death encounter on his Minnesota farm.  Despite excruciating operations and a litany of disasters, he perseveres, but at a price.  Beardsley becomes addicted to pain narcotics and is eventually arrested for forging prescriptions.  This inspiring story recounts Dick’s journey from hero to criminal and his eventual redemption.
